Prompt 71: The Stranger

"The stranger" is this weeks prompt, courtesy of Beth Patterson, whose blog is Virtual Tea House. Thank you, Beth! Here is her poem:

On any graced day
The stranger shuffles, glides, stalk, trails over a horizon
Gently pushing aside the lilacs obscuring hearts’ doors
Asking only an audience.

Prompt 70: Blue Rain

Thanks to Lissa at Just Writing Words for the prompt blue rain this week. Thanks, Lissa, for the photo, too!

yesterday my mind refused to expand any thoughts
it has left me alone
to dwell inside this crumpled body
aching without reprieve
all day I hid underneath a black cloud
shifting my heels
I fell into a puddle of blue rain
and slipped into darkness
when I opened my eyes
everything has changed into one hue
when the blue sun came out
a strange amusement took over me

Prompt 69: Assimilation

Thanks to Gautami of Rooted for this week's prompt, assimilation. Here is her poem:

deathless ghosts

in that deathless night
dark images dance merrily
undead spirits come alive
ghost graves shake
assimilating the dead air
heat of that night
goes icily cold

"I shiver thousand miles away"

Thanks to Floreta of Solitary Panda for this week's prompt, denouement. Here are her poem and photograph:

Denouement
Resolution raises

Act II strings
Warm malaise
Questioning unknowns

Mr. Linky appears to work right now. However, you may not see Mr. Linky on past posts. This is because I have to re-code each individual post. I have now re-coded Prompts 59 (April 11, 2009) to 83 (Sept. 28, 2009). I will be re-coding all old posts as quickly as I can.
Because of the Mr. Linky problems, you may find this blog (and all Mr. Linky blogs) is loading slowly. This seems to be because it has to load individual Mr. Linkys for each post instead of using the script calls from the template. This problem may continue forever. But at least we have Mr. Linky now.
Thank you.

Prompt 64: Tolerance

Thanks to Gina of Kilauea Poetry for this week's prompt, tolerance. Thanks to her also for the photo above and the poem below.

"Against Such Things"...

Virtue n.) Specifically, moral excellence; integrity of character; purity of soul; performance of duty...

T olerance..from the top of the sea saw I hear you call- your hair in mid air looking down on me-

O h tolerance, I say squinting.. is no virtue at all.. just patience, watered down ya see..

L evel..isn't as lovely sounding- but, it's not a one way street..good for me.. oh but not for you-

E asy now, while I'm hopping..my knees are bent- but I'll be hoping.. you'll be hearing me too &

R emember, don't ya run out in the street...and well

A lign..just happens to come to mind.. cause all my thoughts get crossed-

N ow a plumb line's best for tracking, as the wind could blow anywhere

C ause we..we won't have a foundation..like the board that goes under me & you?

E asier if it's a two way street..and remember, don't ya take candy from strangers-

But the fruit of the Spirit is-
love,
joy,
peace,
patience,
kindness,
goodness,
faithfulness,
gentleness,
self-control; against such things there is no law -Ga 5: 22

Prompt 63: What's It Like?

First of all, it's Harold Robbins. It's Nancy Friday. It's "My Secret Life" and "Make Me" by Sonja Kindley. It's the "Readers Fantasy Forum" in Playgirl Magazine.

It's wet dreamsRubbing off. Vibrators, body parts, lost souls, breaking hearts, dildos.

It's The Lover by Marguerite Duras. It's Georges Bataille, Anias Nin, and Anne Rice.

It's Fanny Hill, Fear of Flying, Goblin Market, and Lolita.

It's John Preston, Sera Gamble, Susie Bright, Richard Labonte, and Shanna Germain.

Imagine running naked through your neighborhood. It’s joy. Rebellion.
It's a buzz, coming out of the closet, a morning after kind of truth. It's spilling the milk, missing a step. It's not academic. It's cocks and cunts.

It's this age-old argument about art.
It's deciding whether or not to use a pseudonym.
It's prejudice. It's telling your son the truth anyway.

It's in the face of paranoia: it's a risk.

Friends say, you leave your car unlocked, your windows open?
Sex is the window to the soul.

Picture this: you're five years old

And trust somebody then he molests you.
Imagine every time you open your mouth your father beats you.
It's the Creation Story. It’s irrational, hopeful, painful.

Thanks to Alana of After the Pole for this prompt and image.

Prompt 62: Tactile

This week's prompt is tactile. Here's the definition from the Online Etymology Dictionary: 1615, "perceptible to touch," from Fr. tactile, from L. tactilis "tangible, that may be touched," from tactus, pp. of tangere "to touch" (see tangent). Meaning "of or pertaining to touch" is attested from 1657.

Prompt 61: Word

Jeeves of Silence is Poetic offers word as this week's prompt. Here are her poem and image. Thank you, Jeeves!

This is how it should be
Relationship at distance
and unsaid words imagined
Like, I sit here and think
The words you say
With your morning yawn
This is how it should be
Intriguing moments, few unsaid words
And many imagined ones

Prompt 59: Live Water

Thanks to Sue of Sunflower Roots for this week's prompt, live water. Thanks to he for supplying this poem and photo, too.

Live Water

the creek flute dances
a natural accompaniment
‘neath work and sleep;
its liquid silver ballet
skips stones, bends grasses,
to wind slender fingers
through my day;
live water
embraces the hours
with subliminal music.

In Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (Bantam Books 1974), poet Annie Dillard writes “Live water heals memories.” It is from Dillard that I first learned how to view the world through both the eyes of a naturalist and a poet. This book is a treasure to be savored, the perfect accompaniment to a summer’s day, especially one spent near creeks and woods.

Prompt 58: Listening

Thanks to Laurie at April Wine for this week's prompt, listening. Thanks for sharing this poem and image with us, too.Sound of my own footsteps
Hitting sand on pavement
A cardinal’s call
The click of a camera
School bus passing
Truly listening
To the sounds surrounding me
Listening to the quiet
But not quiet
As I listen, I hear many birds
I am alone but not alone
For the birds are singing their song
Their praises for a beautiful day
Spring is on the way
Just listen

Prompt 57: Smoke

Deb Godin of The Cloud Messenger brings us this week's prompt, smoke. Thanks to her for the prompt, the image, and the poem below.

SMOKE

ah, nag champa smoke

pray: Om mani peme hung

breathe the breath of love

This photo is of the corner of my tiny front porch. It's not insulated, and can be very hot in summer and freezing in winter, perfect this time of year. I keep a lot of my treasures there where I can see them every day going out and coming in. There's bowls of beachglass, suncatcher crystals in the windows, and my growing collection of junktique mirrors on the walls. One of the belief systems I admire and am drawn to is Tibetan Buddhism. I have lots of Buddha statues and small figures all over my house. This statue on the porch is holding some thin reeds, and also doubles as an incense holder. I was hoping the smoke from the burning incense would show up in the photo, but only the small ember on the tip of the stick is visible, on his right shoulder.
