Prompt 250: Tree

Harshad Mehta of Space Within brings us this week's prompt, tree. Here is his excellent poem:

Stationary & Silent
Observing & marveling

Feeling breeze & rain
Warmth of sun & coolness of moon

Receiving my food
And what it takes to LIVE
Right here

Enjoying all that nature has to offer,
That is why I am here
That is how I live &
That is how I pass away

Fruits, seeds, leaves & shadows
Are results of my being,
Not my anxiety
if they are useful

I am just a tree

I wonder about this man
Always on run!

Food, house, Relationships, Status…
So much to “maintain”
Run, run & run…..

Trying to earn his living
When will he realize it is a gift?

When will he evolve to know
There is no need to possess to enjoy?

When will he learn to be still?
When will it occur
What he runs for will find him
Once he is still?

When will he learn to be just a man?

I am just a tree.

Prompt 247: Marriage

Thanks to Loco Mente of Locomente for this week's prompt, marriage.  Here is her poem:

The knots of trust and faith
The knots of love and belongingness
I blushed and we exchanged rings
The rings of joy and robustness
The rings of passion and laughter
I smiled and looked into his eyes
The eyes of the man I trust
The eyes of my soul mate
I closed my eyes and prayed
The prayers were for his well being
The prayers were for our togetherness
I looked around and saw people
The people whom I love and care
The people who form a part of identity

Prompt 245: Nature

Thanks to Leo of I Rhyme without Reason for this week's prompt, nature.  Here is his poem.

everywhere around me,
there is inspiration to write.
drops of November rain,
kissing young green leaves,
slipping into the red lips
of a rose about to blossom;
a lone ray of warm sunlight,
escaping the black clouds;
showing me there is hope,
even when gloom shrouds.
the cold biting gust of wind,
its breath on my windows,
the warm coo of the pigeon,
from the ceiling's shadows.
Nature's joys everywhere,
it does surround our lives,
in Her arms, I am a child,
and my imagination thrives.

Prompt 244: Amity

This week's prompt is amity from Dreams are my Reality.  Here is Amity's contribution:

Politicians seem the friendliest
When elections are nearest
They always wear a smile
To conceal their cunning guile…

To win the hearts of voters
They are quick with handshakes
They lift the children to peck their cheeks
And please the moms with such ease

They make all kinds of wild promises
To bring the moon and meet your needs
If only you vote to make them succeed
Only to be forgotten when they win

They unfailingly hold a grudge
Against those who don't oblige
And make for bitter enemies
To innocent people like me!

When will politicians ever learn?
That with humility and service they can earn
The goodwill of voters and people they need
But they need some traits to stand them in good stead.
Let me say my piece:
“Amity is virtue…
Amity is the best policy…
Amity is the magic word…
Amity is the key to success…”

We Have Added A Prompt for September!

We have added one more prompt to bring us through the entire month of September. The new prompt for September 23 - 29, 2012 is HALCYON. We would like to thank Geraldine of My Poetic Path for this prompt. We have updated the prompt page, the calendar and the sidebar links. We hope you are all having a peaceful summer. Thank you for continuing to support and contribute to One Single Impression.
Sandy and Andrée
* Halcyon (adj.)  1540s, in halcyon dayes (L. alcyonei dies, Gk. alkyonides hemerai), 14 days of calm weather at the winter solstice, when a mythical bird (identified with the kingfisher) was said to breed in a nest floating on calm seas. From halcyon (n.), late 14c., from L. halcyon, from Gk. halkyon, variant (perhaps a misspelling) of alkyon "kingfisher," from hals "sea, salt" (see halo-) + kyon "conceiving," prp. of kyein "to conceive," lit. "to swell," from PIE root *keue- "to swell." Identified in mythology with Halcyone, daughter of Aeolus, who when widowed threw herself into the sea and became a kingfisher.

(from dictionary.com)

Prompt 228: Balloon

Harshad Mehta of Space Within brings us this week's prompt, balloon. Here is his poem:

Call of a Balloon

Light and colorful
Going higher and higher
As high as I can
And still further….
Nothing holds me
In my single minded pursuit
…. to reach my highest
No looking back
No holding back
No intentions to return
My let go is complete
Reaching higher
I will disappear,
Clinging not
Hearts looking at me from the ground
Connect with me
Some smile, some sigh!

Prompt 225: Waiting

Harshad Mehta of Space Within brings us this week's prompt, waiting. Her are his poem and image.
flying-bird.jpg

It's Never too Late

Go knock
Again and again
Don’t take no as an answer
It’s never too late
You have plenty to give
Do not worry
Open your door
It’s never too late
Road may seem to be long
Start your journey
Every step adds to your strength
It’s never too late
You may be alone
Don’t wait for others to join
Follow they will on trail you make
It’s never too late
Listen to call of your heart
Only one life for it to live
Say yes to life,
What are you waiting for?
Why postpone?
It’s never too late ……..to live
Take off.

Prompt 224: Wanting

Thanks to Jim of Jim's Little Photo and Poem Place for this week's post, wanting.

Wanting

I'm wanting--wanting someone new
It's a friend that I cannot find
Who she is I may never tell
That's because I don't know myself

She may bring something nice to eat
or perhaps a bouquet of blooms
Someone nice she's someone pretty
Pretty is by each soul defined

She might be someone very young
or someone terribly ancient
I will know when first I see her
Sure it will love at first sight be

I feel as if I am always apologizing . . . this time I apologize for the lateness of these prompts. Both Sandy and I are teachers and with field trips, proms, end of year assessments and all, we have gone past “busy” and into insane. But Sandy got the list to me in plenty of time for me to post it. But I forgot. Sorry, sorry, sorry!   — Andrée

Prompts

Hello, Friends!

Again, we're asking for some new prompts to get us into the summertime!  Please leave your suggestion and the link to the blog where you post your poems in the comments!  Thank you.

Prompt 219: Depression

Harshad Mehta of Space Within brings us this week's prompt, depression. Here is his thought-provoking poem:

Nothing inspire
Day is harsh
Colors of sunset gloomy
Thought of dark night scary

Miserable is my spirit
Prayers selfish
Smiles heavy
My utterances are complains
Compliments hollow
Even blessings demanding

Heart far away to be loved
And too selfish to love
Though surrounded by many
Lost in world another

Awareness that
You are always there
Lost in this black hole,
No light on other end

Faith shaky, Truth hazy
Denial deep, Options ill
Life a burden

Is death freedom?
