The State of My Soul
One cannot exist without the other
Eternally bound to one another
They are interwoven seamlessly-
Faith and Soul
Soul and faith.
Never pushing one ahead of the other
One never falls behind.
Working together for a common cause,
They advance.

Neither in heaven or hell,
Rather somewhere in limbo
Resides all that defines my very existence.
Faith and soul run,
Ever steady.
Weaving in and out of
Potholes,
Obstacles and rest stops,
What was once a barely-there
Trickle,
Now a conscious stream of energy.
A ribbon along the wind,
It drifts on
Sight unseen
Fearlessly.

Soul sustains faith
Or does faith sustain soul?
One a coursing river of cool, the
Other a blazing stream of a flame.
Amazing one never
Overtakes the other.
The other never engulfs one;
A fusion,
They silently pull
My centered self
Into obedience.

My wildly beating heart
Knows the path
My faith-soul
Will take.
My brain is the variable-
Wanting logic,
Needing it, really
To plot my course.

The state of my faith-soul
Is in limbo.
Neither here or there, in
Heaven nor hell,
Dealing with the limitations
Of its humanity.

one-under, one better than par for the hole)

14 clubs, that’s the maximum allowed
Steeped with rules and regulations than most
Timing to be on the tee-box to the dot
Not to be late for any scheduled stops

The young and old if you have the will
You can start at the cradle for the feel
Of clubs or the myriads of balls available
You can still swing at 80 if you are able

A game most fair to all irrespective of skill
A handicap system creates a level playing field
A lower handicapped can still win the match
The system supports fairness the way it is played

It is the easiest of games so said the Pro
The ball is stationary that you must know
Just take your stance and tee-off as normal
The same all the way until you reach the 18th hole

Not the whole truth as the game is not just physical
The difficulties are related more to a game of mental
Getting good scores of pars, birdies, eagles or a hole-in-one
Nerves of steel are needed but that ‘s where all the fun

It is a frustrating game as we all had sadly experienced
But the prize-money of sweat and tears count into millions
The new Tigers, Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng are on the rise
Lurking in the shadows though Woods can still spring a surprise

Wheat is etymologically the ‘white’ grain. Happy Tau Day! Poetry Contest Begins Today!

En Syu Ritsu (The Circle Ratio)

The First Annual Tau-Ku Challenge

Today, June 28, is Tau Day. What’s a tau? Read here or click the caption to the image above to learn more. The value of tau is twice the value of pi, or 6.28. The significance of this for One Single Impression is a poetry contest! Because my life is out of control with a new kitten (don’t get one unless you can supervise it every moment of the day and night), this will not be a one day contest. It will run until Saturday at midnight. I will announce the randomly drawn winner on Tuesday, July 5. I can’t announce it earlier because of the Fourth of July holiday that I need to photograph.

So anyhow, here are the rules of the contest:

The topic is your choice.
The format is:
- 1st line: 6 syllables
- 2nd line: 2 syllables
- 3rd line: 8 syllables
Use the inlinkz so that I can have inlinkz choose a random winner.
Sorry — only one entry per person!
The prize will be your poem and my photography combined into a beautiful display.

Singing praises, Sins as deadly as is!

Blinded by curses that's forbidden,
Embraced in clutches of evil,
Whispers stalk church to chapels,
Thee all, bears a child of devil,
Speak we, do the good in need,
Dormant, it sleeps deep within,
Minds so silent, in conscience,
Damn, awakes an everlasting terror...

Crushing, destroys grace of life,
Absorbed in vain, while confession,
Six things the Lord hateth, in tears,
Seventh, His soul loathes, thy creation,
Good virtues battle the evil vices,
Temptations live to sing the tale,
Good is cornered by evil, all ends,
Savior, to wipe all wrath, there's none...

Belief in abilities, as vanity rises,
Bearer of the deadliest, as christened,
Donning a disguise, in truth, in lies,
Fatal it seems, in progress, its 'pride'...

Desire for the rest, in joy, in distress,
Content, one is not with that bestowed,
Yearns for best, urges minds to plea,
Swallows generosity, for 'envy' to be...

Limit not known, in senses deprived,
To consume more, than what one could try,
Inordinate as all sees it, so loony,
Even money seems small, in front of 'gluttony'..

Pleasures and passion, in color that bleed,
Dreadful desires, taking to a high, in spirits
Rendered to a feeling, unknown in time..
Deformed by love, 'lust' indulges minds in crime..

Manifests fury, swaying decisions, so grim,
Hate overcomes shadow of peace and pun,
Second name to wrath, linked to danger,
Once near, none can save thee, not even 'anger'...

As realms of spirituality, turns its back on life,
Hearts long for gains, worth of debris, so old,
Life gets what it wants, cribs for what it needs..
Cycle of nature wheeling on, never ends one's greed...

Avoidance of effort, laying back in comfort,
Physical actions thrown away for the strong,
When you realize, you have been good for none..
Say cool! coz' you are a recipient of 'sloth'....

NOTE: I apologize for being late with the prompts on the sidebar and with the calendar. I will catch up as soon as I can. Also: If you are having trouble with the RSS feed for OSI not coming, please e-mail me at meeyauw@gmail.com. I have heard that it isn't working right for everybody. I have gotten it so it works right for me, so I had assumed it worked for everybody. It doesn't. I need to know who is affected and then I will have more clues for fixing this. And last of all: the Followers gadget on the sidebar does not work and has not worked for a couple of weeks. I have contacted Google with all of the details long ago, and they never respond. A dog in street, my pet,

Returning after a few days from tour,
I see him in a corner,
Low & depressed.
He runs towards me,

OSI E-mail Was Hacked

Tonight, Sandy learned that OSI e-mail was hacked. The hack seemed similar to the Facebook hacks that I have seen for iPhones. In those hacks, you get an iPhone offer in the mail or IM. When you click on the message, e-mails with the similar offer are sent to everyone you know. Somehow our password was hacked and we think that some of you may have gotten these iPhone offers. If you have, we suggest you change your e-mail password immediately. We have changed our passwords and now our e-mail works again. Google stopped all activity on our OSI e-mail account when the trouble started, so hopefully none of you were affected. If you tried to e-mail us and don’t think we got your message, please re-send it. Our apologies to all of you.

We Have a Pi-Ku Contest Winner!

Kim Nelson of Kim Nelson Writes is the winner of the random drawing for our Pi-Ku contest yesterday! She is the winner of a framed 4x6 image of her pi-ku on a photograph. Congratulations, Kim! Her poem appears below.

At this time, because of the interest, I would like to give you warning of the Tuesday, June 28, 2011 Tau-Ku Challenge. This will be one day only! And again, a random winner will be drawn. Your poem does not have to be about math. What is tau? Tau is two pi, or approximately 6.28 (which is why June 28 is Tau Day). The rules of the contest:

The topic is your choice.
The format is:
- 1st line: 6 syllables
- 2nd line: 2 syllables
- 3rd line: 8 syllables

~~Tomorrow~~ Today is March 14, 3/14, 3.14, or as it's known to many unlikely to have other plans, Pi Day. I'm learning about a few ways Pi Day is celebrated by so-called mathletes. There are pie contests and pizza parties. Those who can recite more than just three digits do so out loud to no one in particular, and the Exploratorium in San Francisco holds an all-day celebration. And some people, we understand, write pi-ku—haiku about pi. I say we take it one step nerdier and make new rules.

First line: 3 syllables
Second line: 1 syllable
Third line: 4 syllables

I hereby challenge all poets to create a Pi-ku for today. You may leave it in the comments or add your link below. I'm working on mine as I bake my apple pie! Let's have some fun! As an added incentive, I will use the powers of inlinkz to draw a random winner tomorrow morning. I am devising a rare, one-of-a-kind surprise prize that you will cherish forever! Aesthetics

This was the discovery of fire: when I,
for the sake of Art, held out that plump round fruit
and you snapped a bite with those perfect white teeth,

juice seeping from the corners of your lips. So red,
that we had to invent new words for it (oxblood, scarlet,
red of the screaming center of the hurricane rose)

and I took one slender finger to trace the droplets
around your skin. I predicted Pollock. I felt creation
rise in me like the lightning that comes in the evening,

dripped it down your naked chest, following hair-trails,
musculature, hipbone: that was what we found when
we took the lightning in both hands. It smoldered into

twin desires, twisted into the ladder of our DNA:
skin sliding over skin, the thirst for sweat and friction,
and color corrupting color, a need to re-create things

in our image. Arrangement of forms animates me. I am
one long paintbrush: the fruit bleeding knowledge
is my choice of expression trickling down your belly:

and if you'll permit, I'll call your skin my canvas,
making it up as I go along, letting myself burn from the
inside out, killing so many birds with one cometary stone.

I wish I had Sandy's skills. She works full time, contributes regularly to several blogs in administrative positions (including this one), writes her own blogs, comments on other blogs, and takes care of her family. Sandy collected all of the wonderful suggestions that you sent for prompts and somehow managed to get it down to these choices. She has to watch the "old" prompts to make sure there isn't too much duplication (even though we have no duplication rule). Then she has to make sure names and URLs are correct. Then she sends it to me and crosses her fingers and says her prayers that I get it done on time.

Well, I got it done on time. Barely. I know how dedicated you all are to your art and I hope you have sufficient time to prepare and write. This blog has blossomed so beautifully that it makes me sing. All of you are so awesome!

Luring her to believe in his decency
Revealing nothing but his honesty
He was truly a wicked personality
As evil as a hated devil could be.

He pushed her deep into a quagmire
Of ignominy and sheer hopelessness
In scuttling her escape he was ruthless
Ensuring her total dependence on him
And exploited to meet his every whim

Deeper, deeper driven into desperation
She steeled her mind into strong determination
To escape from his clutches her only aspiration
She resisted all his acts of abomination
With force only to face his cruel indignation

Little by little, she garnered the needed support
From a kind soul with whom she held rapport
Thanks to him, a brave new person she had become
Fearless, valiant and ready to face the outcome
When the promised help would soon come

For the wickedness he had employed
For debasing her with all his might
For the ruthless times he dealt with her
For the tacit moments of sheer shame
He would be made to own full blame

When rescue finally came from forces of law
The evil man could not escape from their steely claw
The menace needed a woman as tough as her

An Invitation from Leo

Leo of I Rhyme Without Reason e-mailed an invitation to all OSI participants. He is having a writing challenge, no genre required. It sounds very interesting. It begins November 1 and continues every day of November except Sundays (thank you, Leo! That’s OSI Day!).

The theme for each day is the letter of the alphabet. Backwards. So on November 1, write in any genre about a topic that begins with Z. On November 2 do the same with a topic for the letter Y, etc.

This is a great idea, Leo. I want and need to write. But as you can tell by my non-existent haiku, I’m not writing. Thank you for this cool challenge!

The New Look of One Single Impression

Before the prompt is posted in just over one hour, I wanted to tell you about our new look. I've been thinking that the old OSI is dated. Blogger has new, versatile templates and they are fun to work with.

I need your feedback. What needs improvement? If you can't read something, it has to be fixed. So please let me know. All comments are e-mailed to me, so I'll be reading them and I will be paying attention to what you need.

My first question to be answered is the text on the banner — I think it is superfluous and redundant. Does anything besides "One Single Impression" have to be there? If so, what should it be?

I don't know if I'll be keeping the hydrangea banner or not. You may have suggestions for banners. They have to be 980x215 pixels. The banner text is not on the banner — it's from an element in Google. We could have seasonal banners or collages . . . just about anything that reflects the phrase "One Single Impression."

Let me know! Don't be shy. Just be gentle!

Pathfinder

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
and yet they seemed unkind to me:
it does a traveler no good
to see the possum meat and blood
that stain their black periphery.

These asphalt snakes that loop the field
with broken spines in pallid paint,
they fester like a wound unhealed.
The deer and fox are well-concealed:
their shadows grey, their outlines faint.

No more they dare themselves to stray
across that tarry river in the trees:
nor did I wish more to go that way.
I cleared the brush like August hay,
to see the paths the clever fox sees.

Cars pass in the corner of my eye:
I creep alongside them, heel to toe.

The Link Problems

Every Saturday night I check to make sure that the OSI post has published properly and that Mr. Linky is working. I miss a few nights. Once, a chicken was squawking outside the garage at midnight and I had to run out and see why. There was a fisher cat in the barn and the hen had escaped its clutches. But it took two hours to make sure the chickens were secure again, to make sure the fisher cat was back up on the mountain, and to get that girl back to bed. Returning to the computer, I found problems with Mr. Linky at 2 AM that night and had to stay up even later to fix it!

Last night I saw that Mr. Linky wasn't working and that the OSI blog was loading extremely slowly. I knew the loading problems were caused by Mr. Linky. But often these problems clear up overnight, so I went to bed confident that all would be well.

All is not well, as you can see. I've reached the end of my patience with Mr. Linky. I pay for their service and have been loyal. Their tech support is quick and good. But the problems continue and I don't want to deal with problems when there are other linking services that don't seem to have problems.

Therefore, without even consulting Sandy, I will be switching to inlinkz.com, which is the same linking service used by SkyWatch, Haiku Heights, and other memes. The change over may be messy. I hope you continue to have patience with the change over and with me. I want your links to be quick and easy to input and I want them available all the time to other readers. I never want you to feel frustrated or have you return again and again and attempt to input your link.

I am going to put inlinkz on today's Prompt 129: Beginning starting right now. I will add each of you manually. But I will be putting your e-mail addresses as noreply@noreply.com. Be sure that you update and fix this next week in your link. I will also choose an iconic graphic from your blog to identify your link. The page will continue to load slowly until I can delete the Mr. Linky script. I won't be able to delete that script until I have completed entering your links from your e-mails. Please be patient and hang in here with us! I should've done this change over months ago and I apologize for not doing so. I am skipping church and will sit with this until it is fixed.
